Peter James Hafiz, a prominent figure in the Minnesota nightlife scene, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, in Woodbury. Known affectionately as the “King of Clubs,” Hafiz built a remarkable legacy through his dedication to the hospitality industry and his ability to create spaces where communities came together to celebrate.
Born and raised in Minnesota, Hafiz initially pursued a degree in architecture before joining his family business. His vision and hard work transformed early opportunities into a thriving career. Over the years, he owned and operated several successful bars, nightclubs, and real estate ventures. His contributions to the local community left an indelible mark, making him a beloved figure among friends and patrons alike.
Hafiz is survived by his devoted wife, Catherine, daughter Madison (Malik) Al-Khatib, and grandson Zane. He is also remembered by his son Anthony and his family, mother Eleanor Hafiz, and siblings Richard (Brenda), Leslie, and Stewart (Tiffany). In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and hundreds of friends who regarded him as family.
The community will honor his life with a traditional Orthodox service at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church located at 1250 Oakdale Ave., West St. Paul. The service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 2. Visitations are set for Monday, December 1, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, December 2, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, all at the church. A private family burial will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. As the community grieves, many reflect on Hafiz’s generosity and the connections he fostered throughout his life. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his memory will be cherished by all.
