The community is mourning the passing of Vernon A. Nathe, who died peacefully on November 1, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by family. Born in Clarkston, Washington in 1937, Vern was the youngest of five children born to Elizabeth and Peter Nathe. His life was marked by dedication to family, faith, and community service.
A Life of Service and Family
After graduating from Washington State University, Vern served two years in the army, stationed in Germany. Upon returning, he moved to Mountain View, California, where he met his future wife, Lou Elsa Voegtly. The couple married and spent a fulfilling 60 years together, raising three sons: Michael, Matthew, and Jonathan, in their home in Novato.
Vern was a successful entrepreneur, running his own business, Nathe Food Service, while also owning West Brooklyn Pizza in San Rafael. His career was marked by his commitment to quality and service, making a lasting impact on the local culinary scene.
Passions and Community Contributions
A devoted Christian, Vern actively participated in his church community, singing in the choir and contributing regularly. His love for music was matched only by his passion for golf. As a long-time member of the Marin Country Club, he enjoyed countless rounds on the course, forging friendships along the way.
Vern was also a passionate sports fan, particularly of the San Francisco 49ers. He held season tickets from the days of Kezar Stadium through Candlestick Park and later passed these tickets to his sons when the team relocated to Santa Clara.
Vern is remembered as a loyal friend and a pillar of his community. He is survived by his wife, Lou Elsa, their three sons, four grandchildren, his sister Ethel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for November 22, 2025, at Our Lady of Loretto located at 1806 Novato Blvd, Novato. The service will begin with a Rosary at 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Vern’s life and legacy.
As the community gathers to honor Vern, his contributions and the fond memories shared will continue to resonate, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
