Alfred V. “Al” Carbone, a beloved member of the Salem, New Hampshire community and a former firefighter in Woburn, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at the age of ninety-two. His life was marked by a dedication to public service, a passion for photography, and a deep love for family.
Born in East Boston to the late Vincent M. Carbone and Antonietta M. (Capone), Al was raised in Woburn, where he graduated from Woburn High School. He developed a profound appreciation for the outdoors early in life, particularly enjoying hunting. Alongside this, he nurtured a lifelong interest in photography, which became a significant part of both his personal and professional pursuits.
Before embarking on his extensive career in public service, Al honorably served in the United States Army and the Merchant Marine. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life. He dedicated many years to the City of Woburn as a firefighter, where he was known for his courage, reliability, and steadfast commitment to the community.
In addition to his firefighting career, Al worked for several decades as a photographer for the Woburn Daily Times. His lens captured countless moments that chronicled the life of the city he cherished. Al’s photographs not only documented history but also reflected the spirit of Woburn and its residents.
Al is survived by his cherished children: Alan Carbone and his wife Jeanne of Salem, NH; Daniel Carbone and his wife Marianne of Danvers; Brian Carbone of Salem, NH; and his late daughter Lynne Carbone. He was also a dear brother to Janet Carbone of Maine and the late Peter Carbone and Vincent Carbone. Al took immense joy in being the grandfather of eleven and great-grandfather of eight, who brought him great happiness throughout his life.
His family and friends will remember Al for his quiet warmth, unwavering devotion, and integrity. He leaves behind a legacy of creativity, community service, and a love for family that will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.
Funeral Arrangements
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Charles Church, located at 280 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, December 6, at 11:30 a.m.. Following the Mass, burial will take place at Woodbrook Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours prior to the Mass, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, MA 01801.
As the community reflects on the life of Alfred Carbone, his contributions to public service and his enduring spirit will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
