Daycare Administrators on Leave After Child Abuse Charges Filed

Two administrators at the Trinity United Methodist Church Child Development Center in Huntsville, Alabama, have been placed on administrative leave following serious allegations of child sex abuse against a former employee. On January 23, 2023, 24-year-old Cameron White was arrested for one count of sexual abuse involving a child under the age of 12.

The allegations came to light when officials from the Child Development Center reported concerns of inappropriate contact between White and a child to the Madison County Department of Human Resources. This prompted an immediate investigation into the claims, leading to White’s arrest.

In a letter to parents, Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowser, the Head Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, announced that both the Center Director, Sheryl Raddin, and Associate Director, Megan Tarin, would be on leave while the situation is assessed. Rev. Dr. Cowser emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and the need to determine if proper protocols were followed. He stated, “This step is not a conclusion, but allows the necessary space to review documentation, reporting, and communication procedures.”

During the administrative leave, oversight of the Child Development Center will be managed by Rev. Carrie Jones, the Executive Pastor, alongside Classroom Success Coordinator Heather Atkinson. They have committed to maintaining stability and continuity of care for the children and ensuring clear communication with families during this challenging time.

Rev. Dr. Cowser reassured parents of their commitment to the safety and well-being of the children, saying, “Please know that we are holding you, your children, and the entire CDC community in prayer. Our hearts are breaking alongside yours, and we remain committed to walking through this season with care, honesty, and compassion.”

In response to the allegations, attorney Bart Siniard from Siniard Law, LLC, has announced plans to file a lawsuit against White, the Child Development Center, and Trinity United Methodist Church for negligence related to the abuse incidents.

As the situation unfolds, the church and its officials are under scrutiny, as parents seek clarity and assurance regarding the safety measures in place for their children. The case raises critical questions about child safety in educational and daycare environments, highlighting the importance of vigilance and proper reporting protocols in preventing such incidents.
