Feed the Children and Chickasaw Nation Support 800 Families in Ada

Feed the Children and the Chickasaw Nation are partnering to host a Resource Rally on December 6, 2023, aimed at providing essential food and personal items to approximately 800 families in Ada, Oklahoma. The event will take place at the Pontotoc County AgriPlex from 10:30 a.m. to 14:00, addressing the increasing needs of families as the holiday season approaches.

Families attending the rally will receive a 25-pound box containing shelf-stable food, which will include items such as canned vegetables, soup, and cereal. Additionally, each family will receive a 15-pound box filled with personal care products, children’s books, and toys. Distribution will occur on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring that as many families as possible benefit from the initiative.

This collaboration is not new; the two organizations have been working together for several years to support families throughout Oklahoma, particularly during the holiday season. As reported by federal data, Oklahoma ranks among the states with the highest levels of food insecurity, with approximately 16% of Ada residents living below the poverty line.

Emily Callahan, the president and CEO of Feed the Children, emphasized the importance of the initiative. “The holidays can be especially difficult for families struggling to put food on the table, and far too many children are going without the food and hygiene essentials they need to thrive this time of year,” she stated. Callahan highlighted the value of the long-standing partnership with the Chickasaw Nation, noting, “This holiday, our collaboration is a step closer to realizing our vision of a world where no child goes to bed hungry.”

The Resource Rally serves as a critical support system for families in need during a time when the demand for food assistance typically surges. Community members interested in contributing to the cause can donate through the Feed the Children website at feedthechildren.org. Donations will help address global hunger and support children in communities across the United States and beyond.

By working together, Feed the Children and the Chickasaw Nation aim to make a significant impact on the lives of families in Ada, ensuring that they have access to the basic necessities during the holiday season.
