Good Earth Natural Foods Expands with New San Rafael Location

Good Earth Natural Foods, a renowned natural and organic grocer based in Marin County, is expanding its footprint with a new location in San Rafael at 1500 Northgate Drive. The third store for the company will occupy the former Rite Aid building in the Northgate Mall and is anticipated to open in Spring 2027. This new establishment will complement its existing stores in Fairfax and Mill Valley, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to providing high-quality organic products.

Co-owner and Managing Partner, Stephen Mitchell, expressed enthusiasm about this expansion. “We are thrilled to announce the opening of a third Good Earth location in Marin County,” he stated. “We were focused on finding a location that allowed us to expand access to uncompromisingly clean, healthy, organic food throughout Marin, and to better serve our North Marin customers. We are very excited about this next chapter in our evolution.”

The San Rafael store will be a substantial addition to the community, featuring an estimated 21,300 square feet of retail space. Customers can look forward to an array of offerings, including an in-store café, scratch-made prepared foods, and a full-service meat and seafood department. The new location aims to create a community-oriented shopping experience, enhancing the mall’s role as a vibrant destination for dining and retail.

This expansion is set to generate over 200 new jobs, providing opportunities for local residents and allowing current employees to advance into leadership positions. Co-owner Al Baylacq emphasized the company’s commitment to community engagement: “We will seek input from the community throughout the buildout process to ensure the store meets local needs.”

Founded in 1969, Good Earth Natural Foods has established a strong presence in Marin County, known for its focus on certified organic produce and sustainable practices. The grocer has built its reputation through attentive service and educational programming aimed at promoting health and wellness. This expansion reflects its strategic growth plan while maintaining high standards across all locations.

The new San Rafael location is significant not only for its size but also for its potential to connect with the community. “I’m super proud that we can continue to not only provide upward mobility for key staff, but we also get to bring more organic to new friends and families!” Baylacq added. “I’m beyond excited to see what we can create in this new space, and we welcome the community’s input every step of the way.”

As Good Earth Natural Foods prepares for this new chapter, the company reaffirms its dedication to improving the health of both people and the planet. The Terra Linda location is poised to strengthen the grocer’s legacy of offering clean, healthy foods while enhancing access to organic groceries for residents in North Marin.
