Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Reaffirms Support for Palestine at UN Meeting

Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met with the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, on March 14, 2024, in New York. The meeting focused on reaffirming Indonesia’s commitment to peace efforts in Palestine amid ongoing regional tensions.

During the discussion, Minister Marsudi emphasized Indonesia’s long-standing support for Palestinian aspirations. She reiterated the country’s dedication to a peaceful resolution to the conflict, highlighting the importance of dialogue and cooperation among nations. Indonesia has consistently advocated for Palestine on various international platforms, including the United Nations, where it seeks to address issues affecting the Palestinian people.

Mansour expressed gratitude for Indonesia’s unwavering support, noting that the country plays a vital role in the international community’s efforts to find a just solution to the Palestinian situation. He highlighted the significance of solidarity among nations in promoting peace and security in the region.

The meeting also touched upon the need for increased humanitarian assistance to Palestine, particularly in light of the recent escalations in violence. Both representatives underscored the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis arising from the ongoing conflict, which has affected countless lives.

Indonesia’s support for Palestine is not new. The country has historically been a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights and has provided various forms of assistance, including diplomatic backing and humanitarian aid. As a member of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Indonesia has consistently pushed for international recognition of Palestinian statehood.

The discussions at the United Nations reflect a broader international concern regarding the situation in Palestine. Minister Marsudi called for renewed efforts to revive peace negotiations, emphasizing the need for a two-state solution that respects the rights and aspirations of both Palestinians and Israelis.

As the meeting concluded, both Marsudi and Mansour acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained optimistic about the potential for dialogue and cooperation. The ongoing commitment from Indonesia serves as a reminder of the importance of international solidarity in addressing complex global issues.
