A resident of Macomb County has struck it rich, winning a remarkable $1 million from a Michigan Lottery instant ticket. The 60-year-old man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, purchased a King Cashword ticket from a self-serve machine at a Kroger store located at 16450 25 Mile Road. Initially believing he had won $5,000, he soon discovered his actual prize was far greater.
The winner recounted his experience to the Michigan Lottery, stating, “I bought my ticket out of a self-serve machine and scratched it off. At first, I thought I won $5,000, and then I found another word to make 10 for a $1 million prize. It was awesome! Winning feels like a huge blessing and means I can retire earlier than I planned.”
Upon claiming his prize, the lucky winner opted for a one-time lump sum payment of approximately $693,000 instead of receiving annuity payments. He plans to use the funds to secure his financial future and facilitate his retirement.
The King Cashword game, which debuted in June 2025, originally offered three top prizes of $1 million. Following this recent win, two of those prizes remain unclaimed, adding to the excitement surrounding the lottery game.
This significant win not only highlights the thrill of the lottery but also showcases the potential for life-changing financial opportunities within the Michigan Lottery system. As more players try their luck, stories like this one continue to inspire hope and dreams of sudden wealth.
