Virginia Hagaman Boding, a dedicated educator and cherished family member, passed away on November 2, 2025, at the age of 81. Her life, filled with teaching, music, and family love, leaves a lasting legacy for those who knew her.
Born on January 20, 1944, to Floyd and Mildred Fenner Hagaman, Virginia was the middle child among three siblings, alongside her sister Genevieve and brother David. She grew up in a nurturing environment that emphasized education and community.
Virginia completed her secondary education at Grass Valley High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science and a secondary teaching credential from Chico State. This foundation paved the way for her lifelong commitment to teaching.
For over five decades, Virginia shared her passion for science with middle school students. She briefly taught at Bidwell Junior High before dedicating much of her career to Sacred Heart Elementary School in Red Bluff, California. Her enthusiasm for her subject inspired countless students to appreciate the wonders of science.
Virginia’s contributions extended beyond the classroom. For several years, she wrote a column for the local newspaper, focusing on the wildflowers native to the region. This endeavor showcased her deep appreciation for nature and her desire to connect with the community.
In addition to her professional achievements, Virginia found joy in music. She was an active member of her church choir and enjoyed playing and teaching guitar to others. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she cherished her involvement with her church and its community.
Virginia’s family was of utmost importance to her. She was married to her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Boding, for 54 years. Together, they raised their son, Benjamin Scott, who is married to Tracy Pivovar. The couple welcomed a grandson, Tyrus Ayele, who brought immense joy to Virginia’s life.
She is survived by her husband, son, and grandson, as well as her sister Genevieve and two nephews, Kelly and Randall Barney. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and her brother David.
A graveside service will take place on November 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, located at 600 Cemetery Lane, Red Bluff. A reception will follow at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. The arrangements are being managed by Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers.
Virginia Hagaman Boding’s legacy as an educator, musician, and devoted family member will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her commitment to her students and her deep love for her family reflect the values she instilled in others throughout her life.
