San Diego County Basks in Warm Weather Despite Winter Predictions

Punxsutawney Phil has predicted six more weeks of winter, yet San Diego County is experiencing a significant warm-up. From Tuesday through Thursday, temperatures are expected to rise, with the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasting pleasant conditions across the region.

Meteorologists anticipate high temperatures on Tuesday to reach between 71°F to 76°F near the coast, 77°F to 82°F inland, and 80°F to 84°F in the western valleys. The foothills will see temperatures between 76°F to 81°F, while the mountains can expect 64°F to 74°F. The deserts will be the warmest, with highs ranging from 81°F to 85°F. Additionally, patchy dense fog over coastal waters may persist into Tuesday morning, particularly affecting coastal communities.

As offshore winds develop on Wednesday, the fog is likely to dissipate along the coast. The NWS predicts that the Santa Ana winds will strengthen from Wednesday into Thursday. This phenomenon is expected to generate strong gusts, particularly in the county’s mountainous areas, where gusts could occasionally exceed 50 mph in some mountain passes. Despite this, winds are anticipated to remain below advisory levels, allowing for relatively safe conditions throughout the region.

Cooling temperatures are on the horizon as the weekend approaches, driven by a return of onshore flow. A low-pressure system may bring a chance of showers on Friday afternoon, with a slight possibility of thunderstorms. The NWS indicates that these showers could extend into Saturday, depending on the path of the storm system.

Forecasters are also monitoring the potential for cooler, wetter weather early next week as additional systems approach San Diego County. As the region enjoys its current warm spell, residents may need to prepare for changing weather conditions in the days ahead.

With nearly 14 miles of paths, Mission Bay Park remains a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a perfect backdrop for enjoying the warm weather while it lasts.
