Turck’s Trees Delivers 17-Foot Capitol Christmas Tree for 2025

A 17-foot balsam fir from Turck’s Trees in Litchfield, Minnesota, has been designated as this year’s Capitol Christmas tree, with decoration scheduled for Monday. The tree was delivered to the State Capitol in St. Paul earlier this week after Turck’s Trees won the grand champion title at the Minnesota State Fair earlier this year, earning the honor of providing this year’s official tree.

The delivery occurred on Tuesday, when Capitol staff set up the tree in the rotunda, as confirmed by a news release from Turck’s Trees. This event marks a significant moment for the family-owned business, which has been in operation since 1875. The balsam fir will remain on display for public viewing beyond the Christmas holiday.

Turck’s Trees, located near Litchfield, is known for its rich green needles, natural conical shape, and impressive needle retention after being cut. According to the farm’s website, the balsam fir is recognized as the most fragrant of all Christmas tree varieties and is native to much of eastern and central Canada, as well as the northeastern United States.

The farm has been cultivating Christmas trees since 1981 and has over 35 years of experience in selling them. Owned by Joan and Steve Turck, the operation involves multiple generations of the family, with the fourth, fifth, and sixth generations actively working together.

In 2024, Turck’s Trees achieved the reserve grand champion title at the Minnesota State Fair and also provided trees for the Governor’s Residence in St. Paul. This year, they were selected to furnish the Capitol tree from over 120 competing entries submitted by members of the Minnesota Christmas Tree Association from across the state.

The selection of Turck’s Trees showcases not only the family’s dedication to quality but also the enduring tradition of Christmas celebrations in Minnesota. The Capitol Christmas tree serves as a symbol of holiday spirit, and this year, it has been entrusted to a farm with deep roots in the community.
