Fox News Host Questions Right-Wing Influencer’s Fraud Claims

A debate erupted on social media after a Fox News host challenged claims made by right-wing YouTuber Nick Shirley regarding alleged fraud at child care centers in Minnesota. On March 11, 2023, Shirley posted a video on X, claiming to have uncovered $110 million in fraud within a single day. His video followed reports that suggested approximately $1 billion in social services funding in Minnesota had been fraudulently misappropriated by entities associated with the state’s Somali community.

The controversy gained traction among supporters of former President Donald Trump, particularly following the release of documents related to the investigation into financier Jeffrey Epstein. These documents have raised questions about Epstein’s connections to various political figures, including Trump. In light of these developments, Kash Patel, Director of the FBI, announced that additional resources would be allocated to combat fraud in Minnesota prior to Shirley’s video release.

During a broadcast of “The Five” on March 13, 2023, Fox News co-host Jessica Tarlov expressed skepticism about Shirley’s claims. “There’s no way this kid walking around uncovered $100 million of fraud on his own,” Tarlov stated. She emphasized that numerous individuals, including local journalists, have been investigating the issue for some time.

Tarlov’s remarks ignited a passionate reaction from MAGA supporters on social media. Eric Daugherty, chief content officer at RightLine News, criticized her statement on X, claiming, “WTF?! Jessica Tarlov just LIED about Nick Shirley, saying he didn’t uncover Somali fraud in Minnesota.”

Another MAGA influencer, Nick Sortor, also voiced his disapproval, stating, “You can’t rebut his exposé so you have to attack him personally. Pathetic.” Comments continued to pour in from supporters, including one from Gina Milan, who expressed her frustration with the media’s portrayal of the situation.

The dispute highlights the ongoing tensions within political discourse, particularly surrounding claims of fraud and accountability in government funding. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how this will impact public perceptions of the investigation into social services in Minnesota.
