The report, authored by a group of 24 agents, argues that Patel “has neither the breadth of experience nor the bearing an FBI director needs to be successful.” One source noted Patel’s personable nature, yet criticized him for fostering a “culture of mistrust and uncertainty among the ranks.” Many agents reportedly fear speaking out, with one stating, “They do not want to be terminated from employment.”
Concerns extend to Deputy Director Dan Bongino, who was characterized in the report as “something of a clown.” Bongino responded via X, dismissing the report as “gossipy nonsense” from individuals with “a clear agenda.” He emphasized that many within the bureau are unhappy with the reforms implemented under his and Patel’s leadership.
Among the anecdotes shared, one incident highlighted Patel’s visit to Utah following the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. According to the report, Patel insisted on wearing an FBI raid jacket upon disembarking from his plane. Agents had to scramble to find a jacket that fit him, leading to a situation where two agents removed their own patches to accommodate the director’s request.
In light of these revelations, questions surrounding Patel’s future have emerged. Reports indicate that President Donald Trump is contemplating replacing Patel due to growing frustration with the negative publicity surrounding his leadership. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt labeled these rumors as “fake news,” asserting, “This story is completely made up.”
