Tara Beasley-Stansberry Launches Campaign for Vallejo City Council

Tara Beasley-Stansberry, a member of the Vallejo Planning Commission, has officially declared her candidacy for the Vallejo City Council District 5 seat. The announcement was made on January 16, 2023, coinciding with the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Beasley-Stansberry participated in the MLK Day March and organized a free luncheon for seniors at the Florence Douglas Center, emphasizing community service and engagement.

In a statement released on Monday, Beasley-Stansberry highlighted her commitment to leadership grounded in service. “MLK Day is a reminder that leadership is service,” she stated. “Today, I’m announcing my campaign in the same way I intend to govern: by showing up, listening first, and staying accountable to the people of District 5.”

Beasley-Stansberry outlined her campaign platform, focusing on three main priorities: Revitalize Vallejo, Homes & Health with Accountability, and Local Opportunity Now. She aims to foster effective governance and implement improvement strategies developed collaboratively with District 5 residents.

Community Engagement Central to Campaign

The candidate is dedicated to maintaining open lines of communication with constituents. To facilitate this, Beasley-Stansberry plans to host ongoing neighborhood listening sessions, inviting residents to contribute their ideas and feedback throughout her campaign. “The campaign will invite ongoing resident input through neighborhood listening sessions,” she explained.

To formally launch her campaign, Beasley-Stansberry will hold a public Campaign Kickoff Breakfast on January 31, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at Noonie’s Place in Vallejo. This event is designed to be interactive, allowing community members to share their priorities, provide feedback, and sign up for future listening sessions and follow-up meetings. Attendees will also hear brief remarks outlining the campaign’s next steps.

Beasley-Stansberry previously ran for the District 5 seat in 2022 but was defeated by Peter Bregenzer, the former vice mayor. Bregenzer has confirmed that he will not seek reelection this year, opening the door for new candidates like Beasley-Stansberry.

With a clear focus on community involvement and accountability, Beasley-Stansberry’s candidacy is set against a backdrop of local engagement and a commitment to revitalizing Vallejo. As the campaign progresses, her emphasis on listening to resident voices may prove pivotal in shaping her governance approach.
