Denver Nuggets Legends Celebrate Jamal Murray’s All-Star Selection

Jamal Murray, the Denver Nuggets guard, received his first NBA All-Star selection last weekend, a milestone celebrated by the franchise’s legends. Former players Dan Issel and Alex English expressed their pride in Murray’s achievement, emphasizing its overdue nature.

“It’s past due. I mean, this kid has been playing great basketball for four or five years. It’s not like he just started,” English remarked in an interview with Bennett Durando of The Denver Post. He continued, acknowledging that Murray has played a supporting role alongside superstar Nikola Jokic, which may have overshadowed his contributions. “He’s been the Batman sidekick, and hasn’t gotten the accolades he has overwhelmingly deserved, honestly. But this man’s been an All-Star a long time.”

Issel echoed this sentiment, noting that Murray’s presence next to Jokic might have contributed to his delayed recognition. “I think part of the explanation is that he’s playing with the greatest player on the planet,” Issel said. “And I think that usurps, sometimes, what a great player he is.” He also highlighted Murray’s ability to step up when needed, suggesting that his performance could elevate any team he joins, provided he is the primary scoring option.

The Denver Nuggets were among the seven teams with multiple All-Stars at the event held in Los Angeles, with Jokic and Murray representing the franchise as members of Team World.

Looking Ahead: Murray’s Aspirations

Following his All-Star debut, Murray has set his sights on becoming an All-NBA player in the upcoming seasons. “I want to be an All-NBA type of player now that I’ve made All-Star,” he stated, aiming for a strong performance throughout the 2025-26 season.

Murray recognizes the challenges ahead, particularly regarding team health. “Get healthy is a big one,” he said, referencing the struggles faced due to injuries within the starting lineup. “It’s hard to rate or critique our team right now with our whole starting five basically out. Once we’re healthy, once we get guys back, we’ll be in a better place.”

The Nuggets will be looking to capitalize on Murray’s momentum from this All-Star selection as they pursue greater success in the NBA. With his ambitions clearly outlined, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this talented guard continues to evolve in the coming years.
