Eric Kjar, a highly successful high school football coach, has been appointed as the new head football coach at Weber State, a decision announced on November 7, 2023. Kjar, who previously led the Corner Canyon team, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of developing talent to the Wildcats.
In his 14 seasons at Corner Canyon, Kjar amassed an impressive 112-10 record, securing seven 6A state titles. His recent accomplishments include winning six championships in the last eight seasons, which featured two three-peats. Under Kjar’s leadership, Corner Canyon also made history by participating in the inaugural high school national championship game presented by Overtime and Omaha Productions against St. Francis Academy.
“I’m very excited to be leading the Weber State football program,” Kjar said in a statement. He expressed confidence in the current roster and the talent available in Utah, stating, “I know we can build a championship-caliber program at Weber State, and I look forward to the challenge and getting started. Go Wildcats!”
Kjar’s Legacy and Impact on Player Development
Kjar’s coaching prowess has not only led to state titles but has also produced several players who have succeeded at the collegiate and professional levels. Among them, Zach Wilson was drafted second overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft, and Jaxson Dart was selected 25th by the New York Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft. This history of player development was a key factor in Kjar’s recruitment by Weber State.
Tim Crompton, the athletics director at Weber State, highlighted Kjar’s deep roots in Utah and his leadership qualities. “Coach Kjar is absolutely the right leader at the right time,” Crompton stated. He emphasized Kjar’s ability to build a program grounded in talent and character, qualities that align with Weber State’s vision for its football program.
Kjar’s appointment is seen as a significant milestone not only for Weber State athletics but also for the broader community. Crompton remarked, “This is an exciting day not just for Weber State athletics, but for the entire institution and community.” He welcomed Kjar and his family, expressing confidence in the energy and commitment Kjar will bring as a leader.
Kjar is set to take over the program as it aims to elevate its performance and competitive standing in college football. The Wildcats look forward to the new direction under Kjar, who aims to maintain and enhance the football program’s legacy.
With a strong emphasis on community values and a commitment to excellence, Kjar’s leadership marks a new chapter for Weber State football, promising exciting innovations and a focus on student-athlete development in the seasons to come.
