In an exhilarating display of talent, the West Rowan Falcons and East Rowan Mustangs secured victories in their respective high school girls basketball games on March 15, 2024. The Falcons remained undefeated with a narrow 69-66 win against North Iredell, while the Mustangs triumphed over Mount Pleasant with a 49-43 score.
Tiara Thompson led the charge for the Falcons, scoring a remarkable career-high of 35 points. Her performance included three 3-pointers and 12 free throws, showcasing her skill and composure, particularly in the crucial fourth quarter where she added 14 points. West Rowan’s head coach, Ashley Poole, praised Thompson’s poise at the foul line, stating, “Tiara was clutch at the foul line in the fourth quarter.”
Alongside Thompson, senior Aubrey Martin also made a significant contribution, netting 13 points with her own three long-range shots. Both players missed last season due to various circumstances, with Thompson transferring and Martin sidelined by injury. Currently, Thompson is averaging an impressive 26.3 points per game, emphasizing her key role in the team’s success. The Falcons played without their teammate Sydney Smith and improved their record to 5-0. North Iredell now stands at 3-2.
In Granite Quarry, the East Rowan Mustangs celebrated a solid victory against Mount Pleasant. Senior Lily Kluttz led her team with a career-high 24 points, surpassing her previous best of 14. Kluttz was backed by Jaelyn Earnhardt who scored 8 points, and Bristol Smith with 7. The Mustangs, now with a record of 3-3, have managed to secure two consecutive wins.
The match remained competitive throughout, with East Rowan leading 25-22 at halftime. Mount Pleasant struggled to keep pace, finishing with a total of 43 points. The Tigers were led by MacKenzie Clutter, who scored 22 points, but fell short against the Mustangs.
With these victories, both West Rowan and East Rowan have demonstrated their determination and skill as they continue their seasons, promising an exciting journey ahead for their teams and supporters.
