Hoofbeats & Pawprints Rescue Activates $5,000 Matching Grant

Hoofbeats & Pawprints Rescue (HPR) has launched its third annual “Santa Paws” Holiday Challenge, inviting the community to maximize their holiday contributions. A group of anonymous donors, referred to as “HPR’s Santa’s elves,” has pledged a matching grant of $5,000. This means that every donation made to HPR will be doubled until the goal is reached.

The impact of HPR’s work is evident through numerous success stories, including that of a special dog named Drea. For several years, Drea patiently waited at the rescue, hoping for a home despite her special needs. This fall, her story took a heartwarming turn when Jan Speer, a retired ICU nurse from the Tampa area, came across Drea’s photo online. Having cared for a pet with similar needs in the past, Jan felt an instant connection to Drea.

“When the two finally met, it was clear their connection was instant and deep,” said HPR President Kathy Fitch. “Drea had finally found her person — and the happy life she had been dreaming of for so long. Her holiday wish came true, and it’s the kind of holiday miracle your Santa Paws gifts to HPR make possible throughout the year.”

HPR is a nonprofit organization based in Natchez, Mississippi, dedicated to caring for, rehabilitating, and transporting pets who cannot be adopted locally. The organization facilitates the adoption of nearly 1,500 animals annually, many of whom arrive in need of medical attention, nourishment, and safe shelter.

As the holiday season approaches, Fitch emphasized the importance of community support. “Every day is a chance to offer hope — a warm bed to rest in, a full bowl, gentle care, and the promise of a better tomorrow,” she noted. Increased medical needs and higher food costs during winter intensify the demands on the organization, making community contributions vital.

Fitch also highlighted that donations made in honor or memory of loved ones can be particularly meaningful. “For friends or family who already have everything, a gift given in their name can change an animal’s life,” she explained. “We are also honored when supporters choose to provide a memorial gift for someone special through giving.”

All contributions are tax-deductible, and donations made before December 31 will be matched through the Santa Paws Challenge Grant.

For those interested in supporting HPR, donations can be made via mail or online. Checks should be payable to HPR and sent to 17341 River Road, Natchez, MS 39120. Donors are encouraged to include the name and address of anyone they wish to honor so a gift acknowledgment card can be sent. Online donations can be made by visiting www.hoofbeatsandpawprintsrescue.org.

This holiday season, the Santa Paws Challenge offers an opportunity for the community to make a lasting impact on the lives of many pets in need.
