Michigan’s Yaxel Lendeborg Leads Four Players to All-Big Ten Honors

The No. 3 Michigan men’s basketball team celebrated a significant achievement as four players were honored with selections to the All-Big Ten teams. Announced on March 1, 2026, the accolades were highlighted by graduate forward Yaxel Lendeborg, who was named the conference Player of the Year and received First Team recognition from both media and coaches. Lendeborg earned this distinction unanimously from the media.

Joining Lendeborg in receiving All-Big Ten honors are sophomore forward Morez Johnson Jr. and junior center Aday Mara. Johnson was placed on the Second Team by media votes and the Third Team by coaches, while Mara also made the Third Team from both voting groups. Notably, none of these players ranked in the top 24 for points per game in the conference. Nonetheless, their contributions extended beyond mere scoring, showcasing effective offensive efficiency, strong rebounding skills, and notable defensive capabilities throughout the season.

Defensive Prowess and Freshman Recognition

The trio of Lendeborg, Johnson, and Mara was also recognized for their defensive efforts, all earning spots on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team. This acknowledgment underscores the strength of Michigan’s formidable frontcourt, which has been pivotal in maintaining a conference-low 47.5% shooting percentage allowed on two-point attempts against Big Ten opponents. Their ability to deter drives and block shots has been a key factor in the Wolverines’ success this season.

Additionally, freshman guard Trey McKenney received a nod to the All-Freshman Team, as voted by coaches. Over the course of the regular season, McKenney averaged 9.6 points per game while playing over 20 minutes per game. His shooting proficiency is highlighted by a remarkable 90.8% free-throw percentage, the highest in the conference for players with over 30 attempts.

Michigan stands out in the 2026 All-Big Ten selections, being the only team to have three players named across the First, Second, and Third Teams, as well as representation on the All-Defensive and All-Freshman Teams. This array of honors reflects the Wolverines’ dominance in the Big Ten this season, marking a notable achievement for the program and its players.

The recognition of these players not only speaks to their individual skills but also the collective strength of the Michigan Wolverines, who have made a significant impact in the conference this year.
