13-Year-Old Kelly Goodnow Clinches Pickleball World Title

BREAKING: In a stunning achievement for youth sports, 13-year-old Kelly Goodnow has officially become a pickleball world champion after an extraordinary performance at the Carvana PPA World Championships in Dallas. This remarkable victory comes just one year after she began playing the sport.

With pickleball surging in popularity—nearly 20 million people participating in the U.S. in 2024, a 45% increase from the previous year—Goodnow’s triumph resonates deeply in the rapidly evolving sports landscape.

“It was such a great experience,” Goodnow said post-victory. “There was such great competition, and all the hard work is paying off, so it feels great.” Facing top-seed Jing Robinson in a nail-biting singles final, Goodnow found herself down 2-8 in the decisive game before launching a remarkable comeback, ultimately securing the title.

“I had to tell myself to keep fighting, keep digging, keep going for it, and I did,” Goodnow reflected on her path to victory.

The emotional stakes were high for Goodnow and her family. “I seriously had a tear come out of my eye because I know how hard Kelly has worked. It was an awesome moment,” said her father, James Goodnow. Her mother, Erin Goodnow, shared the excitement, adding, “It’s such a thrill… most of the time I’m holding my breath. If she’s competing, it’s very exciting to watch.”

With her impressive skills and dedication, Goodnow is already being considered for a professional career in pickleball. Coach Ashlee Candelari confirmed that Goodnow is set to compete in her first pro qualifier event soon, marking a significant step in her budding athletic career. “We’re extremely excited, and that kind of will set the tone for the rest of the year,” Candelari stated.

Training in her own backyard, Goodnow has quickly accumulated national medals and secured sponsorships with brands like Proton Sports and SParms. “I’m sponsored by Proton Sports; they make amazing paddles and SParms – these arm sleeves… so great,” she shared.

As one of the sport’s breakout stars, Goodnow is already inspiring countless young athletes. “It’s surreal to me that I’m doing this,” she said. “I’m so new to the sport, but I’m having the best time and I’m just glad to be along for the ride.”

As the excitement builds, fans and fellow players alike eagerly anticipate Goodnow’s upcoming pro qualifier event. Congratulations to Kelly, and best of luck as she continues to make waves in the world of pickleball!
