83-Year-Old Maria T. Wierzbowski Passes Away in Scotia

BREAKING: Maria T. Wierzbowski, aged 83, has passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on November 17, 2025. This news comes as family and friends mourn the loss of a beloved matriarch known for her creativity and warmth.

Born on June 11, 1942, in Hamburg, Germany, Maria’s journey began in Wieprz, Poland, where she spent her early years. In 1968, she emigrated to the United States, finding work as a master seamstress, a role that showcased her artistic talents. Later, she contributed her skills to General Electric Research and Development as a cleaner, while also pursuing her passion for nursing.

Maria was much more than her professional achievements. She was an avid gardener, finding joy in caring for her plants and creating stunning wreaths and quilts that served as heartfelt gifts for loved ones. Family was her cornerstone; gatherings filled with laughter and traditional polka music were a staple of her home.

She is survived by her sons, Edward Wierzbowski (Gina) and Adam Wierzbowski (Elizabeth), along with her cherished grandchildren: Kirsten, Zara, Luca, and Ayla Wierzbowski. Maria’s legacy of love extends to her sister, Zofia Wronka, and her dear cousin, Kathleen Chastney.

A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 1 p.m., at the chapel at Memory Gardens, Colonie, with interment to follow. The family invites memorial contributions to be made in Maria’s name to the Glenville Hill Volunteer Fire Department, located at 1086 Church Road, Glenville, NY 12302.
