BREAKING: A 14-year-old student from Bellevue, Nebraska, has just won a contest to design a wrap for a police cruiser serving local middle schools. Harper Hardin, a student at Mission Middle School, expressed her shock and excitement upon learning her design was selected. “I was kind of just, like, in shock, like, total shock that I had won,” Hardin said.
The police cruiser, driven by School Resource Officer Isaias Rosario, will soon showcase Hardin’s artwork, featuring a striking combination of white camouflage with purple accents. “This is like a very large military community. And I thought white camo always looks sleek,” Hardin explained, highlighting her inspiration from Bellevue’s military background and school colors.
The wrap will serve as a connection point between the police and the students, with Rosario stating, “What better way to connect with someone than, hey, like, you can potentially have your car out there?” The cruiser is intended to engage and inspire all three middle schools in the Bellevue district.
Hardin submitted her design in November and frequently inquired about the selection process from Officer Rosario. “I kept asking Officer Rosario, hey, when are you guys gonna pick the cruiser? Like, every time I saw him in the office,” she said, illustrating her eagerness and commitment to the project.
Rosario shared his satisfaction in seeing the final design. “It brings joy to my eyes, I guess,” he remarked. The initiative follows similar custom designs created for the district’s high school resource officers, aiming to enhance the visibility and connection of law enforcement within the school community.
Hardin also took a moment to express her gratitude to her art teacher, who encouraged her to participate in the contest. This project not only showcases her artistic talent but also strengthens community ties, making this a significant moment for both Hardin and the Bellevue community.
