URGENT UPDATE: Filomena Califano Piccirillo, a cherished matriarch of the Schenectady community, has passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on December 9, 2025. Her loss is felt deeply among family and friends, as she leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience.
Born in San Giovanni e Paolo, Italy, Filomena moved to the United States in 1965 after marrying her late husband, Guido Piccirillo, in 1963. Together, they raised three children and became integral members of the local community. Filomena’s warmth and dedication to her family were evident in her nurturing spirit and her passion for gardening, cooking, and caring for her grandchildren.
Filomena was a devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and contributed to her community through her work at Union College and the dental office of Dr. DeLuke. She is survived by her children: Nicola “Nick” Piccirillo of Scotia, Lucia Ingriselli of Maple, Ontario, Canada, and John Piccirillo of Schenectady, along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Calling hours are set for Sunday, December 14th, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, located at 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday, December 15th, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Pl, Schenectady, with entombment at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – Northeastern New York or Consumer Directed Choices, organizations that provided support during her battle with Alzheimer’s. This heartfelt request reflects Filomena’s spirit of giving and her desire to help others.
