UPDATE: Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) has just honored local changemakers with its 2025 Healthy Community Awards, held on October 17, 2025 at the Boulder County Southeast Hub in Lafayette. This event, a cherished tradition since 2006, spotlighted individuals and organizations that are pivotal in promoting health and equity within the community.
The ceremony featured prominent figures including BCPH Executive Director Lexi Nolen, Board of Health member Landrey Fagan, and Boulder County Commissioner Marta Loachamin. According to BCPH, the awards celebrate those who go above and beyond to foster a healthier, more equitable, and resilient Boulder County.
In a moving address, Lexi Nolen remarked on the vital connections between public health, community partnerships, and the strength of local initiatives. “These awards symbolize the dedication and innovation that enhance our community’s well-being,” she stated.
Among the honorees, Lisa Allen from Boulder Community Health was recognized for her groundbreaking work in integrating the Family Connects program into postpartum care. This initiative has already served nearly 900 families, significantly alleviating maternal anxiety and depression while advancing racial equity.
Another standout, Gapter Septic Systems & Excavation, has been a community fixture since the disco era, ensuring Boulder County’s water remains clean. Their initiative to provide free septic lid replacements following the Marshall Fire exemplifies their commitment to community wellness.
Pharmacy manager Melissa Bonomo from Albertsons transformed her role into a vaccination powerhouse, training 10 pharmacy technicians and organizing mobile clinics that administered over 10,000 vaccine doses in just one year. Her efforts included vaccinating vulnerable populations, notably providing 46 vaccines at the Boulder Homeless Shelter.
Furthermore, UpRoot Colorado has made significant strides in nutrition and climate action, salvaging and distributing over 520 pounds of local farm produce to families in need, while reinforcing child nutrition and community collaboration.
As Boulder County continues to celebrate these local heroes, the impact of their work resonates throughout the community, strengthening the fabric of public health and inspiring others to contribute to the collective betterment of society.
What’s Next: Community members are encouraged to engage with these initiatives and explore ways to support ongoing health and equity efforts in Boulder County. Stay tuned for further developments as these changemakers continue to pave the way for a healthier future.
