URGENT UPDATE: Boulder residents are raising their voices against the disruptive noise generated by landscaping equipment as fall settles in. According to local letters to the editor, the use of loud, gas-powered leaf blowers has become an annual nuisance, prompting calls for change in the community.
As fall 2023 unfolds, local workers are seen using backpack-mounted leaf blowers, creating noise levels comparable to chainsaws. This practice has sparked frustration among residents, with many questioning the environmental impact and effectiveness of these tools. Earl Noe, a concerned Boulder resident, argues that the city could explore alternatives, such as offering incentives for quieter equipment or promoting traditional leaf raking methods.
“It’s an annual celebration of civic passive aggression and cognitive dissonance,” Noe states, highlighting the irony of such practices in a community known for its environmental consciousness. With noise pollution affecting the quality of life, residents are calling for immediate action from local government officials.
In a separate but equally pressing issue, the CU Buffs cross country teams are set to compete in the NCAAs, yet their achievements have gone largely unreported. Randy Beu, a supporter from Brooklyn, NY, expressed disappointment in the Camera and its parent company, Prairie Mountain Media, for failing to provide coverage of the teams throughout the season.
“It’s truly a shame that the paper that is supposed to be devoted to covering the scholar-athletes at the University of Colorado can’t even get a mention when their achievements take them to the national stage,” Beu stated.
Both issues highlight a growing concern among Boulder residents regarding the local media landscape and environmental practices. With the cross country teams poised for national competition and the community yearning for quieter, more sustainable landscaping practices, residents are demanding better coverage and action from their local government.
As the fall season continues, residents are urged to voice their opinions on these critical matters. The need for change is clear, and the community’s demands for quieter landscaping and better sports coverage are growing louder.
Stay tuned for further developments as Boulder faces these pressing issues head-on.
