Bugatti Ends W-16 Era, Delivers Final €4M Bolide Track Car

BREAKING: Bugatti has officially wrapped up production of its iconic W-16 engine with the delivery of the final Bolide track car, marking the end of an era. The 40th and last Bolide was handed over to its owner today at the factory in Molsheim, France, a significant moment for automotive enthusiasts worldwide.

The Bolide, valued at a staggering €4 million, is not street-legal, making it a true collector’s item. The buyer, a dedicated Bugatti aficionado, also owns a classic Type 35, a legendary racing car from nearly a century ago. This collector’s garage also includes a Veyron Grand Sport, another iconic model that joins the Bolide as the last of its kind.

The Bolide features a stunning Black Blue and Special Blue Lyonnais exterior complemented by a Lake Blue Alcantara interior, creating a breathtaking visual appeal. With only 40 units produced, speculation arises whether any owners will attempt to convert their Bolides for road use. Notably, engineering firm Lanzante is actively working on a project to achieve just that, potentially allowing one lucky owner to gain a license plate for their track-focused masterpiece.

While Bugatti closes this chapter, the Mistral, another model utilizing the W-16 engine, continues to make waves. Deliveries of the Mistral began in February 2024, with only 99 units to be produced before the W-16 engine is retired. This roadster, the fastest of its kind, showcases the enduring legacy of Bugatti’s engineering prowess.

Looking ahead, Bugatti is poised to introduce an all-new V-16 engine for the upcoming Tourbillon, set to succeed the Chiron. This new powertrain, scheduled for deliveries next year, will feature a larger displacement of 8.4 liters and a switch to a naturally aspirated setup, leaving behind the quad-turbochargers of the W-16. This shift is part of Bugatti’s strategy to comply with stricter emissions regulations while maintaining performance excellence.

Despite the retirement of the W-16, Bugatti plans to continue celebrating its legacy through the Programme Solitaire. This initiative aims to create one-off commissions that breathe new life into existing powertrains and chassis, akin to how Pagani has revitalized older models. The potential for refreshed versions of the Veyron and Chiron keeps the spirit of these iconic cars alive, ensuring they remain a part of automotive conversations for years to come.

As Bugatti’s final W-16 production comes to an end, the automotive world watches closely for what innovations lie ahead. The legacy of the W-16 may be concluding, but the impact of its performance and engineering will undoubtedly resonate for generations.
