BREAKING: Tex-Mex favorite Chuy’s has officially announced plans to open a new restaurant in McKinney, Texas, with a targeted launch in late 2026. This exciting development marks the chain’s first location in the area, promising to bring its signature made-from-scratch dishes and vibrant atmosphere to the fast-growing West Grove retail hub.
The new Chuy’s will occupy a 6,600-square-foot space, featuring a bar and outdoor patio on the south side of West University Drive. City planning documents reveal the restaurant will be built on a 1.92-acre pad located at 8405 W. University Drive. Hailey Fitch, Chuy’s communications manager, confirmed the project, expressing enthusiasm for the brand’s arrival, which is anticipated to become a local favorite.
Chuy’s menu is set to include a variety of Tex-Mex classics such as enchiladas, tacos, burritos, flautas, and quesadillas, alongside its popular fajitas and signature sauces. The restaurant will also offer a selection of margaritas, known for its creamy jalapeño sauce that has garnered a loyal customer base.
The West Grove development is being marketed as a vibrant mixed-use district in the 380/Custer corridor, combining retail, dining, and green spaces. This strategic location has already attracted notable national and regional dining concepts, making it an ideal spot for Chuy’s to establish its presence.
In a significant move, Chuy’s was acquired by Darden Restaurants in 2024, integrating it into a portfolio that includes Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse. This acquisition is expected to accelerate the chain’s expansion into suburban areas like McKinney, where demand for new dining options continues to rise.
Currently, Chuy’s operates approximately 10 locations across North Texas, including restaurants in Frisco and Plano, making McKinney a logical next step as DFW suburbs evolve into culinary hotspots.
As construction plans advance, residents and potential employees are eagerly awaiting a groundbreaking date, which has yet to be announced. With an anticipated opening in late 2026, community excitement is building for the arrival of Chuy’s, which promises to enhance local dining options and create new job opportunities in the region.
