David N. Daniels, Beloved Coach and Mentor, Passes Away at 86

UPDATE: David N. Daniels, a cherished figure in the Enfield community, has passed away at the age of 86. He died peacefully on January 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of mentorship and love for sports.

Born on February 19, 1939, in Middletown, Connecticut, David was the son of the late Norman and Okla (Climie) Daniels. He was a proud alumnus of Woodrow Wilson High School and went on to earn both his bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University.

David’s impact extended far beyond the classroom as he dedicated 35 years to coaching and serving as the Athletic Director for the University of Connecticut’s Hartford Division. His passion for sports was evident throughout his career and continued into retirement, where he devoted over 20 years to volunteering with the former Enfield Fish & Wildlife organization.

As an avid outdoorsman, David enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all sports. He also contributed to the community as an umpire for local men’s and women’s softball leagues and served as a baseball referee. His involvement in the Catch Hollow Hunting and Fishing Club further exemplified his commitment to fostering a love for the outdoors in others.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Jeanne Daniels, and their children: Tracey Stankiewicz (Tom), Scott Daniels (Catherine), Tammy Arthurs (John), Heather Rounbehler, Stephen Clapp (Rebecca), and Tracey Bonanni (Craig). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his sister, Diane Mahoney (John).
