East Grand Forks Teacher John Kinzler Ordered to Stand Trial

URGENT UPDATE: Former East Grand Forks teacher John Kinzler has been ordered to stand trial on multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct, according to Polk County Court officials. This shocking decision follows allegations from several students regarding inappropriate touching during the 1989-90 school year.

In a ruling made today, Polk County District Judge Russell Anderson confirmed that Kinzler, aged 30, will face nine counts of second-degree and nine counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. The allegations surfaced when five girls reported to police that Kinzler had inappropriately placed his hands on their buttocks. Further investigation revealed similar claims from two additional students.

Kinzler, who has maintained his innocence throughout the investigation, has been released on his own recognizance. However, he is prohibited from contacting the students involved in the case. Despite the serious charges, he continues to teach at Central Middle School, where he also coached girls’ basketball for seven years before resigning from that position on October 22.

Polk County Court Administrator Jim O’Neill indicated that while no trial date has been officially set, it is likely to take place no earlier than January. The unfolding details of this case have sparked significant concern within the community and raise questions about the safety of students in educational environments.

As this case develops, parents and community members are urged to stay informed. The implications of these allegations are profound, highlighting the urgent need for thorough investigations into claims of misconduct in schools.
