El Paso Community College Honors Alba Quintero’s Graduation Today

UPDATE: El Paso Community College (EPCC) is celebrating the graduation of 22-year-old Alba Lucía Quintero García today, as she earns her Associate of Arts in Dance. This momentous occasion highlights her remarkable journey from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, to becoming a prominent figure at EPCC.

Alba’s story is a powerful testament to perseverance and dedication. As an international student, she has faced significant challenges, including commuting across the border twice a week for 6:00 a.m. cheer practices. “Dancing means that no matter where I am, I will always have that comfort with me,” Alba shared, reflecting her deep connection to the art form.

Her journey into dance began as a solution to childhood hyperactivity and has evolved into her lifelong passion. Beyond her studies, Alba has emerged as a leader at EPCC, serving as the president of the Dance Club and participating in the Speech and Debate Team. Her efforts culminated in competitions as far away as San Diego, California, showcasing her commitment to growth and excellence.

Leonor Forrestal, assistant coach of the EPCC Spirit Squad, praised Alba, stating, “

Alba’s resilience, passion for performance, and exceptional work ethic make her a standout student and a true highlight of our program.

” This recognition underscores the impact she has had on her peers and the EPCC community.

Despite the challenges of a rigorous academic schedule and the demanding commute, Alba finds beauty in her experiences. She noted, “At first it was really hard, but in the end, you discover the magic of the border. You realize El Paso and Juárez are really one big city.” This sentiment speaks to her deep appreciation for the region that has shaped her journey.

Family support has been crucial in Alba’s success, particularly the encouragement from her mother. Looking ahead, she is set to continue her education at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where she aims to earn a master’s degree and pursue a teaching career in dance.
