Elderly Woman Dies, Firefighters Injured in College Point Blaze

URGENT UPDATE: A devastating fire in College Point has resulted in the death of an elderly woman and injuries to two firefighters. The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) responded to the emergency call at 5:16 a.m. on October 27, 2023, regarding a blaze on the first floor of a private residence located at 124-07 26th Ave.

Firefighters quickly mobilized, dispatching 14 units and assembling over 70 personnel to combat the raging flames. The fire was brought under control by 6:37 a.m., but the situation took a tragic turn during a search of the premises.

Authorities reported that an 85-year-old woman was found unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) rushed her to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she was initially listed in critical condition. Sadly, she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

The victim’s identity has not been disclosed, as officials await family notification. In addition, two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the incident and were also transported to the same hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by FDNY fire marshals, who are working diligently to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
