Emergency Services Promotes Allyson Summitt to Deputy Chief

UPDATE: Rowan County Emergency Services has just announced the promotion of Allyson Summitt to the role of deputy chief, recognizing her over 20 years of dedicated service in emergency response and public safety. This urgent development highlights the county’s commitment to enhancing its preparedness and operational efficiency in managing complex emergencies.

Summitt’s extensive experience includes pivotal roles in planning and operational leadership, where she has significantly improved coordination among fire departments, EMS, law enforcement, and community partners. Her approach is crucial to effectively managing today’s challenging large-scale incidents.

Having begun her career in 2004 in Catawba County, Summitt cultivated her passion for public service during emergencies. She has since expanded her expertise across various disciplines, including fire service, emergency management, and public information, establishing a robust foundation in operational response and leadership.

Throughout her career, Summitt has been instrumental in enhancing readiness for high-stakes situations, such as active violence incidents and hazardous materials emergencies. She has actively deployed across North Carolina as a member of a State Incident Management Team, playing a key role during significant emergencies like Hurricane Helene and the 2025 North Carolina wildfires.

In her new position as deputy chief, Summitt will oversee the operational management of Rowan County Emergency Services, including the EMS, Fire, and 9-1-1 Communications divisions. She will also lead the county’s emergency management program, focusing on preparedness and response efforts in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies.

Emergency Services Chief TJ Brown emphasized the importance of Summitt’s promotion, stating,

Summitt holds a master’s degree in public administration specializing in emergency services management and a bachelor’s degree in fire administration. She is also certified in various areas of emergency management, showcasing her dedication to maintaining high standards in public safety operations.

As she steps into this crucial role, Summitt will also ensure the Rowan County Rescue Squad adheres to state and federal standards for emergency response, enhancing the county’s capacity to manage multi-agency incidents effectively.

Summitt resides in Rowan County with her husband, Greg, and their five-year-old son. The support of her family has been a vital element of her successful career in public service, underscoring the personal commitment behind her professional achievements.
