UPDATE: In a stunning display of dominance, the Fairview Knights obliterated the Rocky Mountain Lobos with a score of 63-21 on October 31, 2025, solidifying their status as a formidable contender in the Class 5A playoffs.
This decisive victory at Recht Field sets the stage for Fairview’s playoff aspirations following last year’s heartbreaking semifinal loss to Legend. Ki Ellison, the Knights’ junior quarterback, expressed the team’s determination, saying, “We knew it should have been ours,” referring to their past disappointment. The Knights are now back with a vengeance, eager to capitalize on their strong roster.
Fairview’s explosive performance began just 13 seconds into the game when senior wide receiver Sabi Ruttgers dashed approximately 70 yards for a touchdown on the very first play. Ruttgers finished the night with four touchdowns, igniting the Knights’ offense and leaving the Lobos reeling.
With Ellison at the helm, Fairview’s offense was relentless. Notably, Ellison and senior standout Toray Davis combined for multiple touchdowns, further showcasing the Knights’ depth and talent. “We’re ready to make a statement,” Ellison asserted, emphasizing the team’s focus and morale heading into the playoffs.
Fairview finished the regular season with an impressive 9-1 record, their only loss occurring in a narrow 34-33 defeat to No. 4 Arvada West in Week 2. Since then, the Knights have not allowed any team to come close, dominating their opponents in the ensuing eight games.
Head coach Tom McCartney praised his team’s resilience and playmaking ability, despite the absence of last year’s standout player, Jordan Rechel, who scored 29 touchdowns before graduating. “We’ve got guys that can make plays,” McCartney noted after the game, highlighting Ruttgers and kicker Max Vieth for their exceptional performances.
As anticipation builds for the playoff bracket set to be released by CHSAA on Sunday, Fairview is eager to continue their momentum. “We’re just trying to stay healthy and play our best,” McCartney stated, underlining the team’s commitment to excellence.
The Knights’ victory not only serves as a statement to their competition but also energizes their loyal fan base, eager to rally behind a team that has proven it can overcome past setbacks. With their sights set firmly on the playoffs, the Knights are prepared to make a significant impact in this year’s postseason.
Stay tuned for the playoff bracket announcement and updates on Fairview’s journey as they aim for redemption and a shot at the championship.
