Family Welcomes Baby Girl on I-15 in Utah During Thanksgiving

UPDATE: A Utah family experienced an extraordinary Thanksgiving as they welcomed a healthy baby girl on the side of Interstate 15 near Murray while rushing to the hospital. The incident unfolded on November 23, 2023, when the expectant parents realized they wouldn’t make it to Intermountain Medical Center in time.

Just before 2:00 PM, the parents pulled over on the off-ramp of 5300 South, where the mother gave birth less than a mile from the hospital. Utah Highway Patrol Corporal Chaseton Stevens arrived shortly thereafter and described the scene, stating, “

We showed up, and mom was having a baby. This is like the top. Yeah, this is exciting.

” His enthusiasm for such calls highlights the remarkable nature of the event.

The newborn girl was reported to be healthy, and both mother and child were promptly transported to the hospital for further care. The incident did, however, cause temporary road closures as confirmed by the Utah Department of Transportation. According to ABC4, both the right lane and shoulder on the exit ramp were blocked during the delivery but were cleared shortly after.

This heartwarming story underscores the surprise and joy that can occur even during the hustle and bustle of the holidays. As families across Utah celebrated Thanksgiving, this one will always remember the day they welcomed their newest member in an unexpected way.
