UPDATE: Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to a right calf injury sustained during a tight game against the Denver Nuggets. The injury occurred in the first quarter of the 102-100 loss on Friday night, and Antetokounmpo revealed he will undergo an MRI for further evaluation on Saturday.
Antetokounmpo, who played through the pain for 32 minutes, managed to score 22 points, grab 13 rebounds, and dish out 7 assists but ultimately could not finish the game. “I was feeling it for the majority of the game but did not want to stop playing,” he stated. “But at the end, I could not move no more, so I had to stop.”
This latest injury raises concerns for the Bucks, who are currently struggling with a record of 18-26 and sit in 11th place in the standings. Milwaukee has only managed to win 3 of their 14 games without their star player this season. Antetokounmpo emphasized the gravity of his situation, stating, “I’m going to work my butt off to come back. That will probably be the end of February, beginning of March.”
Bucks head coach Doc Rivers expressed his concern about Antetokounmpo’s recurring calf issues, indicating that the star’s health is crucial for the team’s success. “This calf keeps coming up and it’s concerning. It keeps happening, and that’s troublesome for all of us,” Rivers shared. The potential absence of Antetokounmpo is a significant setback for a team that has lost five of its last six games.
During the game against the Nuggets, Antetokounmpo’s injury appeared to worsen as he struggled to move effectively, prompting Rivers to question the medical team multiple times about his condition. Despite the visible discomfort, Antetokounmpo’s determination to contribute to the team was evident, as he refused to leave the court until absolutely necessary.
The Bucks now face a critical period as they attempt to remain competitive in the playoff race. With only a few weeks until Antetokounmpo’s expected return, Milwaukee fans will be holding their breath, hoping the team can stay in contention for a playoff spot. “Hopefully the team will be in a place that we can at least make the play-in or the playoffs,” Antetokounmpo added, emphasizing his commitment to recovery.
This developing situation is one to watch closely, as the Bucks navigate their schedule without their MVP. The next game is crucial, and fans will need to rally behind the team during this challenging time.
