UPDATE: The Grassfield High School girls’ volleyball team clinched the Class 6 Region A championship with a stunning 3-0 victory over Thomas Dale High School on November 11, 2025. The Grizzlies showcased their dominance on home turf, securing the title with set scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-11.
This championship win is significant not just for the players but also for the entire community, marking another milestone for Grassfield’s storied volleyball program. Key players included Benisa Moore, Kenzie Johnson, Emery Stahl, and Lauren Dolbeck, each contributing five kills to the overwhelming victory. Ryann Bothof anchored the defense with an impressive 24 digs, ensuring that the Grizzlies maintained control throughout the match.
Meanwhile, in the Boys’ Class 6 Region A championship, the Cosby High School Titans edged out Grassfield with a score of 3-1 in a hard-fought battle. The Grizzlies lost after a valiant effort, with Isaiah Agustin seen walking off the court in disappointment after the match.
In other volleyball action, the Class 4 Eastern Section championship saw Heritage High School defeat Gloucester 3-1, propelled by Marcus Dozier‘s double-double of 20 kills and 13 digs. This victory marked Heritage’s second consecutive region title, solidifying their position as a powerhouse in the league.
The Class 4 Region A championship also concluded with the top-seeded Grafton High School Clippers defeating Jamestown 3-0. Kenzie Smith led Grafton with an impressive 21 kills and three blocks, while Olivia De La Cruz contributed 20 assists and five aces. Grafton now prepares to face Atlee in the Class 4 state quarterfinals on Saturday at 4 p.m.
In the Class 3 Region A semifinals, New Kent dominated Lakeland 3-0 and will host Tabb, who also won their semifinal match against Colonial Heights with a score of 3-0. The excitement builds as both regions prepare for their upcoming finals, promising thrilling matchups for fans.
