UPDATE: Hazy sunshine and warming temperatures are sweeping across Utah today, October 26, 2023, as a ridge of high pressure settles over the region. Daytime highs are expected to bounce back, reaching the upper 50s to low 60s along the Wasatch Front, with St. George even hitting the low 70s. However, residents should be aware of declining air quality due to persistent haze.
Officials from the Department of Air Quality are sounding the alarm, forecasting “moderate air” quality for Davis, Salt Lake, and Utah counties. This haze is a result of a weak cold front that passed through Northern Utah, coupled with the onset of Inversion Season, where warm air traps cold air and pollutants at the valley floor. As this high-pressure system continues, air mixing will be limited, leading to noticeable haze and potential health impacts.
With clear skies expected statewide, trick-or-treaters can anticipate pleasant weather for Halloween on October 31, with highs reaching the low 60s along the Wasatch Front and upper 70s in Washington County. However, as evening falls, temperatures will drop significantly, from the 70s in southern Utah to the 50s and eventually into the 40s in northern regions.
As we approach the end of the month, Utahns are reminded that Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, on November 5, at 2 AM. Residents should set their clocks back one hour before heading to bed on Saturday night, marking the beginning of shorter days and earlier sunsets.
