Hialeah Driver Charged with Vehicular Homicide After Deadly Crash

UPDATE: A 21-year-old Hialeah man, Kevin Brito Rios, has been charged with vehicular homicide following a tragic head-on collision that left one person dead. The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. on Monday near W. 20th Avenue and W. 76th Street, escalating concerns about reckless driving in the area.

Police reports indicate that Brito Rios was driving at a staggering 80 mph in a 30 mph zone when local law enforcement initiated a pursuit. According to NBC6 South Florida News, officers attempted to stop him after clocking his 2022 Toyota Supra speeding dangerously through traffic, weaving between cars, and entering oncoming lanes.

The chaotic chase ended when Brito Rios failed to navigate a curve, resulting in his vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic and colliding head-on with a Ford Mustang. Both the driver and passenger of the Mustang were rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, but the driver succumbed to injuries the next day. The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released.

Data extracted from the Mustang indicated that Brito Rios was traveling at a minimum speed of 54 mph moments before the crash, despite being in a 35 mph zone, further highlighting the recklessness of his actions.

After the collision, Brito Rios remained at the scene and was subsequently arrested at his apartment by Hialeah police. He is currently detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, awaiting a decision on his bond status.
