BREAKING: Holy Family Haven officially opened its doors in Clarkston, providing 72 affordable housing units for families in need. The grand opening took place on Wednesday, with local students from Holy Family Catholic School playing a crucial role in the celebration.
Executive Director of Catholic Charities Housing, Jonathan Mallahan, confirmed that half of the units are already occupied, with additional families moving in soon. “It was so nice to have all of the Holy Family students there to celebrate the grand opening,” Mallahan stated. The ceremony, attended by city leaders and community members, included a blessing from a priest and showcased the students’ colorful artwork.
Located at 1411 Port Drive, Holy Family Haven is designed not just as housing, but as a supportive community. Mayor Monika Lawrence highlighted the project’s significance, stating that it meets the promise made by John Pilcher, Executive Director of Horizon Housing Alliance, for a “top-notch housing project.”
This complex is not a homeless shelter; it aims to provide a safe and secure environment for families. Currently, 30% of the units remain available for qualifying families. Interested parties can reach out to Catholic Charities for application details at housing.cceasternwa.org/how-to-apply.
Mallahan emphasized that Holy Family Haven represents more than a roof over one’s head. He declared, “It’s a foundation for families to make lasting changes in their lives and achieve their goals.” The development was funded by KeyBank Community Development Lending & Investment, which provided $31.4 million for the project.
The complex will offer a comprehensive range of services, including mental health counseling, substance abuse recovery support, transportation to medical appointments, senior support, and employment assistance. Fresh, healthy food distribution is also part of the initiative.
Families earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income will benefit significantly from this project, with 35 units specifically allocated for individuals who have experienced homelessness.
As families start to move into Holy Family Haven, Clarkston is witnessing a pivotal change, bringing hope and stability to many residents. Applications for the apartments are now open, and interested families are encouraged to act quickly to secure their future in this promising new community.
