URGENT UPDATE: Katie Lin Ortmeyer of Valdosta has just been announced as the recipient of the prestigious Fall 2025 President’s Award for Academic Excellence at Valdosta State University (VSU). This significant recognition highlights her outstanding academic performance in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Ortmeyer will be celebrated during VSU’s 240th Commencement ceremony at 5 p.m. on December 13, 2025, held on the Main Campus Front Lawn. Graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, Ortmeyer’s achievement is a testament to her hard work and dedication.
“Receiving this award feels unreal, and I am profoundly appreciative of it,” Ortmeyer stated. “Looking back on my time here, God’s guidance has been so evident in every moment. This award affirms that my time here was well worth it.”
As she prepares for her graduation, Ortmeyer boasts an impressive academic record as a Georgia HOPE Scholar and a seven-time Dean’s List honoree, with an eighth expected after graduation. Her contributions extend beyond academics; she has actively served her community through various roles at Northside Baptist Church, volunteering for mission trips, and leading youth groups.
Ortmeyer’s dedication to service led her to earn multiple scholarships, including the 2022 Colquitt EMC Scholarship and the James Eunice Legacy Scholarship. These accolades reflect her commitment to both academic and community excellence.
Looking forward, Ortmeyer plans to pursue a Master of Health Science in Occupational Therapy at Augusta University’s College of Allied Health Sciences. “Ultimately, my goal is to become an occupational therapist,” she expressed. “I truly look forward to seeing where this career takes me.”
