Niwot’s Hunter Robbie Wins Boys XC Runner of the Year Award

BREAKING NEWS: Niwot senior Hunter Robbie has been named the Daily Camera boys cross country runner of the year, following a historic season with his team that saw them clinch the state championship for the third consecutive year and the Nike Cross Nationals title for the second straight time.

Just last weekend, in Portland, Oregon, Robbie and his team made headlines by scoring just 61 points, the fewest in the 21-year history of the NXN meet. This came after a stunning performance at the state meet in Colorado Springs, where Robbie’s second-place finish helped the Cougars achieve a record-low team score of 28 points in Colorado’s 5A classification.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy at NXN because there were great teams,” Robbie stated. “But our team just tried harder this year. We knew we had a chance at being one of the best teams in history.”

Robbie’s individual performance was nothing short of spectacular this fall. He dominated three meets, including the highly competitive Centaurus Bernie Gay Invitational and the St. Vrain Invite, while securing second place in three others, including the crucial state race.

His determination was evident as he finished just 1.2 seconds behind teammate Quinn Sullivan at NXN, leading the way for the Cougars in fifth and sixth place overall. “He just loves to compete,” said Niwot coach Kelly Christensen. “He’s begging me every week to race, even if it’s a JV race.”

Robbie’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. He is set to continue his running career at Duke University next year, where he aims to contribute to the school’s up-and-coming program. “I thought it would be cool to be a part of a team that is trying to get better every year,” Robbie explained, drawing parallels to his experience at Niwot.

This remarkable season not only highlights Robbie’s personal growth and dedication but also cements Niwot’s status as a powerhouse in high school cross country. As the team prepares to celebrate their achievements, fans and followers are eager to see what the future holds for this exceptional runner.
