Portland Offers Urgent Discounts to Boost Holiday Shopping Downtown

UPDATE: Portland’s Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) has just announced a series of urgent parking discounts aimed at stimulating holiday shopping in the downtown area. The SmartPark program is now offering an extra 25 two-hour parking coupons for new validation merchants who purchase at least 50 coupons before the end of the year.

Mayor Keith Wilson emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses during this festive season, stating, “The holiday season is a time for community, connection, and celebration.” He added that these discounts are essential for nurturing the small businesses that define Portland’s vibrant downtown.

As part of this initiative, PBOT will sponsor free parking on Small Business Saturday, which falls on November 25, 2023, and on two additional weekends in December. Retailers interested in joining the program can reach out to SmartPark for details on how to participate, including the opportunity to receive up to 40% off bulk purchases of 51 or more validations through December 31, 2023.

SmartPark plays a crucial role in supporting local commerce, providing nearly 4,000 parking spaces conveniently located near dining, retail, and cultural hotspots. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility for shoppers looking to explore Portland’s unique offerings this holiday season.

In addition to parking discounts, PBOT is promoting seasonal cycling events, making it easier for residents and visitors to navigate downtown while enjoying the festivities. For more information on these events, residents can text “Bike” to 888-520-0526 or visit PBOT’s bike resource page.

As the holiday shopping season approaches, these developments are set to make a significant impact on Portland’s local economy, encouraging residents to shop small and support their community. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
