Prisoner Claims Innocence in Nana Home Invasion Robbery Case

UPDATE: A man convicted of breaking into the home of actress and After School member Nana is stirring controversy with new claims of innocence from prison. The 30-year-old suspect, identified as A, was arrested in November 2022 for armed robbery and assault after threatening Nana and her mother in their home in Guri, Gyeonggi Province.

In a shocking letter sent to JTBC‘s Crime Chief through an acquaintance, A denies having planned the burglary, asserting, “I only intended to commit theft and did not prepare any weapons in advance.” He claims he entered the house wearing gloves and a headset and alleges that during the confrontation, Nana stabbed him with a weapon found in the home.

His motive, he states, was to acquire money for his mother’s hospital bills. However, A’s claims raise eyebrows as authorities confirm he entered the residence carrying a weapon. In a dramatic recounting, he asserts that police pressured him into providing false testimony, alleging he was offered ₩40 million KRW (approximately $27,700 USD) to falsely state he was armed during the incident.

Authorities have made it clear that A’s narrative contradicts the findings of their investigation. Police confirmed he climbed a ladder to access the home and threatened Nana’s mother by choking her. Upon hearing her mother’s screams, Nana intervened, resulting in A sustaining a laceration to his chin during the struggle.

Shortly after the incident, police emphasized, “There was a clear invasion of the victims’ rights, and there is no indication that excessive force was used against the perpetrator during the defense.” Consequently, Nana and her mother were ruled out as suspects, with their actions classified as legitimate self-defense.

Nana’s agency has firmly rejected A’s allegations, stating, “The claims regarding hospital bills, monetary proposals, or any weapons-related agreements are entirely false.” They further noted that A asked them not to report the incident to authorities and condemned his countersuit for attempted murder and aggravated assault as an attempt to exploit Nana’s celebrity status.

The agency declared, “We will take all possible civil and criminal legal actions.” Legal experts suggest that A’s prison letter and countersuit may be strategic moves to reduce his sentence or challenge the self-defense ruling, which has already been upheld by the police.

As the situation develops, police plan to review the case in light of the countersuit. Meanwhile, Nana has taken to social media to share her emotional response to the ongoing legal battle, expressing gratitude for her fans’ support during this challenging time.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as authorities continue to investigate the claims made by A and the implications for Nana and her family.
