Robert E. Schneider, Veteran and Community Member, Passes Away at 80

URGENT UPDATE: The community mourns the loss of Robert E. Schneider, who passed away on December 18, 2023, at the age of 80, in Laureldale Nursing Home. Known for his dedication to family and service, Schneider was a beloved figure in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Born as the son of the late Raymond and Alice (Oswald) Schneider, Robert was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from September 1965 to January 1966. He graduated from Reading High School and attended West Chester University, where he laid the foundation for a successful career as a truck and cab driver for 40 years, retiring in 2003.

Robert is survived by his son, Robert C. Schneider, stepson Chad Endy, and stepdaughter Kathleen Byerly. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Zachary Schneider, Haley Hughes, and step-granddaughter Keira Endy, as well as great-grandchildren Matteo, Isabella, and Lucas. His companion, Joy Himmelmann, also shared his later years.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 27, from 11 AM to 12 Noon at Henninger Funeral Home, located at 229 North 5th Street, Reading, PA. The inurnment will be private, allowing for a personal farewell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, reflecting Robert’s enduring spirit and commitment to helping others.

This loss resonates deeply within the community, where Robert was not only a veteran but a friend and neighbor. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
