UPDATE: Rochester’s annual Post Bulletin Holiday Goodies Contest just concluded, showcasing some of the best holiday cookies in the region. Local bakers displayed incredible creativity and skill, with unique ingredients like pistachios and cranberries taking center stage this year.
Judges tasted dozens of entries, but the standout was Julie Domaille‘s Brown Butter Toffee Caramel cookie, which clinched first place. Domaille, a former contestant on the Food Network’s Christmas Cookie Challenge, combined five recipes and added her personal touch to create this winning treat. For her impressive creation, she takes home a $150 gift certificate from Cub Foods.
Second place was awarded to Patti Feuerhelm for her visually stunning Christmas Sprinkle Cookie Cups. These one-bite delights, made in a mini-muffin pan, are filled with frosting and topped with festive sprinkles. Feuerhelm received a $100 gift certificate for her efforts.
Denise Pagel, a previous winner, secured third place with her innovative Cranberry Orange Frosties. Known for her extensive cookie recipe collection, Pagel’s cookies improve in flavor even after a day. She will receive a $50 gift certificate for her delicious entry.
The contest also recognized honorable mentions for Judy Chihak and Tammy Tauferner, who impressed with their Cranberry, Pistachio and White Chocolate-Chunk Cookies and Chocolate Pistachio Cookies, respectively.
The competition, held just before Thanksgiving, offers a delightful way for bakers to share their culinary talents with the community. The judges, including Ayla Carlin, Beth Krohn, and Brian Todd, faced the tough challenge of tasting and scoring numerous cookies, highlighting the importance of fair and thorough evaluations.
