UPDATE: The Saugus High School girls’ basketball team is making headlines as they blaze through the start of the season with a stunning 4-1 record. Senior guard Jasmine Garcia has etched her name in history by breaking the school’s record for the most 3-point shots made in just five games, nailing a remarkable 26 three-pointers with a striking 52% shooting accuracy.
In their most recent game on November 13, 2023, the Centurions delivered a commanding 60-29 victory over Knight High School of Palmdale, with Garcia contributing 18 points and three blocks. Coach Anthony Falasca emphasized the team’s dynamic approach this year, allowing players the freedom to react to defenses creatively.
“This season’s roster is packed with experience,” Falasca noted. “We have seven seniors who have been on the varsity roster since their freshman year, with many accumulating over 100 games of varsity experience.” This depth and familiarity give the Centurions a strategic edge, particularly as they aim for the Foothill League title, which they haven’t claimed outright since 2020.
The Centurions opened their season strong, defeating previous champions like Chaminade and Camarillo. Despite a setback against the Ventura Cougars, Falasca believes the team gained valuable experience from that loss. “Fatigue played a role,” he explained, referring to the grueling schedule of playing four games in four days. “But the effort was there; these girls battled hard.”
Looking ahead, Saugus is set to face Castaic on November 14, 2023, at 5 p.m. The team’s ambition is clear: they aim for a perfect 12-0 league record this season. “We expect to win league outright this year,” Falasca declared confidently. “We want to show we can compete against the best.”
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Saugus to see if they can maintain their momentum and possibly reclaim the title. The community is buzzing with excitement as the Centurions look to solidify their dominance in the league and make a deep playoff run.
Stay tuned for updates as Saugus continues its quest for basketball supremacy!
