Sharon Hill Man Arrested on Gun and Drug Charges in Traffic Stop

BREAKING: A Sharon Hill man, Mark Baxter, has been arrested and charged with multiple gun and drug offenses following a crucial traffic stop by Folcroft police. The incident unfolded around 10 a.m. today in the 1400 block of Hook Road, showcasing the department’s commitment to proactive policing, according to Cpl. Thomas Kesser.

Authorities reported that Baxter, aged 30, was observed acting suspiciously in a blue Toyota Prius. The vehicle halted at a green light, obstructing traffic. As he exited, he was seen disposing of an unknown item in a nearby trash can before returning to his vehicle.

Officer Nicholas Matty approached Baxter’s car, immediately detecting a strong smell of burnt marijuana. When questioned, Baxter claimed he had smoked earlier and denied having any marijuana in the vehicle. However, his initial refusal to allow a search raised suspicions.

After ordering Baxter to exit the Prius, police conducted a pat-down. During this process, Baxter reportedly admitted, “wait, there may be weed in here,” while reaching into a satchel. Officers discovered 44 pills identified as oxycodone, along with additional suspected MDMA pills.

In a shocking twist, as Baxter was secured in the police vehicle, Officer Matty searched the trash can at the bus stop, uncovering a pink-and-silver SCCY 9 mm handgun. The semi-automatic pistol was loaded, containing one round in the chamber and 10 additional rounds in the magazine.

Police also recovered $423 in cash from Baxter and located various packages of suspected marijuana both in his jacket and the Prius.

Baxter has been remanded to the county jail after failing to post 10% of his $125,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 28 before Magisterial District Judge Steven A. Sandone. No defense attorney is listed in the court records.

This arrest highlights the importance of vigilant law enforcement in maintaining community safety. The Folcroft Police Department’s quick response not only led to the apprehension of a suspect but also prevented potential threats from reaching the streets.
