After finishing third as a sophomore, Hogan’s last season ended disappointingly when he went 2-2 at 120 pounds and missed out on the medal round. “I’m constantly chasing the goal of being a state champion. It’s something I think about every day,” he emphasized. The stakes are higher than ever as Hogan prepares for the upcoming Class 2A Ag Science Regional on January 31, 2025.
Hogan has been a force this season, boasting an impressive 28-4 record, with all losses coming against Class 3A competitors. His recent performance at the Catholic League Meet in Chicago saw him finish fourth, but his mindset remains focused on the top prize. “Going against tougher guys is important,” Hogan said, highlighting his strategy of treating losses as learning experiences.
His teammates have taken notice of his dedication. Senior wrestler Micah Spinazzola, ranked No. 4 at 165 pounds, praised Hogan’s work ethic: “Jack is a hard-working individual who really does his own thing.” Senior Luke Pappalas, ranked No. 9 at 138 pounds, called Hogan “relentless,” underscoring his commitment to improvement and leadership within the team.
At 5 feet 9 inches, Hogan has developed into a lean and agile wrestler, leveraging his length to dominate matches. “I use it to my advantage with my shots and my leg riding on top,” he explained, showcasing his tactical approach. His older brother, Kevin Hogan, a former state qualifier, influences his competitive drive as he continues to train at Central College in Iowa.
