Turck’s Trees Delivers 17-Foot Capitol Christmas Tree Today

UPDATE: A stunning 17-foot balsam fir from Turck’s Trees in Litchfield, Minnesota, has just arrived at the State Capitol for this year’s Capitol Christmas tree. The official decoration is set to take place on Monday, December 4, 2025, marking a momentous occasion for the local tree farm.

Turck’s Trees was honored with this prestigious recognition after winning the grand champion title at the 2025 Minnesota State Fair. This is a significant milestone as it is the first time Turck’s Trees has provided the Capitol tree, according to a recent announcement from the farm.

The balsam fir, renowned for its rich green needles and natural conical shape, was delivered to St. Paul on Tuesday, December 1, and has been set up in the Capitol rotunda by state staff. It will be on display for public viewing beyond Christmas, inviting families and visitors to enjoy its festive presence.

Experts note that the balsam fir is not only the most fragrant Christmas tree variety but also boasts excellent needle retention after being cut, making it an ideal choice for holiday celebrations. According to the farm’s website, this species is native to eastern and central Canada as well as the northeastern United States.

Turck’s Trees has a rich history, being in the Turck family since 1875. The farm began planting Christmas trees in 1981 and has been selling them for over 35 years, currently managing approximately 100 acres of Christmas and landscape trees. Owned by Joan and Steve Turck, the operation involves multiple generations of the family working together.

The selection process for the Capitol tree was competitive, with Turck’s Trees chosen from over 120 entries submitted by members of the Minnesota Christmas Tree Association. In 2024, the farm also won reserve grand champion at the state fair and provided trees to the Governor’s Residence in St. Paul.

As the holiday season kicks off, this beautiful tree promises to bring joy and festive spirit to the community. Be sure to mark your calendars for the tree’s decoration on Monday, and don’t miss the chance to visit the Capitol to experience this Minnesota tradition firsthand!
