Two Arrested for Attempted Murder in St. Petersburg Shooting

UPDATE: Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in St. Petersburg that left an 18-year-old victim hospitalized. St. Petersburg Police confirmed the arrests of Charles Hinton, 18, and Christopher Tonsel, 22, on charges of attempted first-degree murder and robbery with a deadly weapon.

The shooting occurred on February 11, shortly before 5 p.m., at 731 15th St. S.. According to investigators, the victim and another individual met Hinton and Tonsel in the parking lot of the Citrus Grove Apartments, located in the 700 block of 15th Street South. The victim was seated in the front passenger seat of a sedan when the incident unfolded.

Police reports reveal that Hinton and Tonsel entered the back seat of the vehicle. Moments later, Hinton allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired, striking the victim in the back of the neck. Following the shooting, both suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot, taking the driver’s backpack with them.

The driver managed to drive approximately one block to a nearby convenience store in the 900 block of 16th Street South to seek immediate help. The victim was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he is currently reported to be in stable condition.
